Fire investigators spent some time in Buhl sifting through the ashes of a home that claimed the life of one person.  The fire was reported Thursday.  They used a search dog to find the victim.  The fire was so intense that search and rescue had to use heavy equipment to eliminate some of the dangers.  The cause of the fire was combustible materials near a wood burning stove.


Idaho’s Commission of Pardons and Parole heard pleas for mercy and cries for justice on Friday at a commutation hearing for Thomas Creech, the longest-serving man on Idaho’s death row.  Creech, now 73, has been on death row since 1983 for the beating death of fellow inmate David Jensen in 1981. His defense team is asking for life in prison without the possibility of parole, rather than death.  Creech has admitted to killing or participating in the killing of at least 26 people.


Idaho along with California, Oregon and Washington are proposing legislation to make standard time permanent.  In Idaho, the standard time bill has been drafted and will move to the House State Affairs committee.


As the Idaho Legislative Session got underway last week, Gov. Brad Little announced education would continue to be his priority this year.  During his State of the State Address, he introduced a 10-year, $2 billion plan to replace Idaho’s aging public school buildings.

Early Friday morning police in Twin Falls were called to Sundance road with the report of shots fired.  Following a six hour standoff, a SWAT team entered the residence to find a man who had committed suicide.  Earlier they removed a woman who may have been a victim of domestic violence. 


The Nampa Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run that happened early yesterday.  At 12:48 a.m., Nampa Dispatch received a call reporting a pedestrian had been struck by a driver on the 300 block of 2nd Street South in Nampa. According to the caller, the driver who struck the pedestrian fled the scene.  The 30-year-old female victim was transported by EMS to a Boise hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
