Sports 3/5/24


Tonight, the area’s senior high school basketball players will be at the Shoshone High school for the annual 1A/2A all-star game.  It will be the north vs. the south.  The girls will play at 6 pm with the boys at 7:30.  The teams will feature eight state tournament teams.


Area coaches have selected the great Basin Conference Boys basketball teams.  This year the coach of the year will be Alex Wells from Canyon Ridge while the player of the year will be Cooper Fife a senior from Wood River High school. 


Minico High School’s Athletic Complex has a new name.  It will be named after Greer Copeland who coached baseball and softball and worked thousands of hours for the school for free.  He is credited for helping to build the JV baseball field, softball fields, tennis courts, lights for the track and soccer fields just to mention a few.


The Bengals men's basketball team played their final game of the 2023-24 regular season tonight. Idaho State would travel to Missoula, Montana, searching for their first win against the Grizzlies in the last five tries.  In the end, the Bengal’s lost 79 to 65.  The Bengals men's basketball squad will be the 8th seed in the upcoming Big Sky Conference Tournament, and face off with the 7th seed, Northern Arizona, in the opening round on Saturday, March 9th at 8 pm. The 2nd seed, Northern Colorado, will be waiting for whoever comes out on top between ISU and NAU in the second round of the tournament.


Elsewhere in Mens College Basketball games, Portland State downed the Idaho Vandals, 72 to 57.  For the ladies, Montana took the win from Idaho State Bengals 67 to 65.  The Idaho Vandals took the win over Portland State 60 to 44.
